had a long conversation with jacob tonight. i should have been studying for the accounting midterm i have in 8 hours but i felt my brain would be better applied to the conversation. our topic: highly controversial. the result: still friends. success.
amongst our talking jacob asked me what i thought power was. i thought for a bit, and eventually talked until i found my answer, which was to be an individual. to not think what you are told to think, to not be what other people tell you to be, to stand up for what you believe is right, to let nothing phase you. jake, being jake, proceeded to ask me if the president has power. of course, i said he has power, but only to an extent. then jake said what if the president sends an army after you, to change the way you think, or what you are doing. and i said doesnt mean i have to do what he tells me. then jake, being jake again, says well then he can kill you, isnt that power? and i said no. no it is not. because really, just because someone kills you does not mean they have power over you. it means that they do not accept you, that they are frustrated that you wont bend to their will, that it is easier for them to exterminate you than to put up with you. i would like to think i have some power in that way.
i enjoy reading and talking and thinking, in order to inspire more thought.
2:43:02 AM Jake: so then what do you live for?
my answer:
goodnight
